w2 trial.
—THE SECOND TRIAL—
Once again, at 9 AM sharp, a familiar bell tolls to alert the hour. You've become familiar with the flow of things, haven't you? You know what tod o — find your answers before the final ring chimes. Even if you try to avoid it, eventually your legs will bring you towards where you know you'll have to be. The courtroom doors swing open, welcoming.
Come by again, and it looks just like last week. Take your seat on any one you wish, and peruse the table lined with (non-alcoholic) refreshments and snacks. The same sign, promising a lunch break. And of course, your observers, sitting by the jury's seat shuffling about a stack of papers. Ask your questions and they will answer.
The judge's seat shows the same message as it has always done: "GRANT WE THINE JUDGMENT — ABSOLVE THEE THINE GUILT," and the same, strange, incorporeal form stays seated at the high seat, hand resting unto a gavel's handle.

The same blue, translucent field prevents you from leaving freely once you're in. You know the drill, don't you?

[ looks at his notes... he's so tired. ]
On Thursday, Maya and I found Miss Akeha at the cathedral. There was blood leading in from the entranceway to where we found her body, on the floor near the altar at the back. It looked like there was a big fight there, the whole place was a mess... but, um, the way the body was positioned — she was lying there with her eyes closed and arms folded, like it was a funeral.
Mr. Valvatorez was still here when we made the announcement about Miss Akeha, but, um. H-he was found dead later that same day. By, uh... Ango and Crowley. [ yes, this is the first time he has ever actually used crowley's name instead of just calling him that guy or some variation thereof. ] It was at the market, near, uh... the fountain? [ he glances over at them to make sure he noted that correctly, and wipes the corner of his eye. ] A-and he was positioned in the same way Miss Akeha was, with the folded arms and everything.
Then, um... last night, Saki and I followed the sound of some creepy music to the orchestra hall. There was a trail of blood at the entrance, and some instruments and stuff were knocked over, and, uh, there were these pieces of a broken statue scattered around. A-and when we looked at some of the pieces, we realized it looked just like Vicious. And it disappeared after that like the other bodies, and he... wasn't in our room last night, so... I'm not sure how he ended up like that, but...
I know Miss Akeha seemed like she was having a really hard time the day before we found her, but the others seemed like they usually did. I'm not... sure if that means anything or not.
[ ... ]
Anyway, um. That's it, I guess.

Val's body report
He's also talking calmly, like he's discussing a report on statistics for work or something.]
I investigated Valvatorez's body.
It looks like he died of impalement. Whatever got him is round-ish in shape and went cleanly through, even piercing his cape. There was a lot of blood around this wound, which was through his torso.
In addition to that, the big red...screw, I think? That was on his chest before was missing, and in its place was a lightweight industrial screw. I managed to get it out- [He indicates to the screwdriver.] -but there wasn't anything else of note there. Other than the fact that the man already had a screw-hole in his chest. The new screw is about the size of the hole, so it sunk in before I used the screwdriver to remove it.
[He'll add that to the evidence pile soon.]
In addition, he had red stains on his hands, mouth, and chest. I checked and there is some blood in his mouth too, likely due to him coughing up a significant amount of blood. But also something of a similar color that is a bit tacky in texture. I tried to smell it to see what it was, but the scent of blood was too strong. Also interesting to note, the blood on his hands was just smears.
Something I would like to point out is that, when Crowley and I found Valvatorez on Thursday, he was near the fountain and there was mud smeared around. I did find a small amount of water on Valvatorez, but no dirt or mud. Not even on the bottom of his shoes. So be on the lookout for traces of dirt, since none was found on the victim. There was also not enough water to suggest that Valvatorez went into the fountain, but there was still water on his face.
He also had a sardine in his pocket, but that might not be anything out of the ordinary for him.

SO LET ME TALK ABOUT THE AKEHAUTOPSY
[Maya taps the spot on her neck where the injury that probably killed Akeha]
There's a lot of neck missing here. Around fist-sized, a bit smaller at most. I couldn't tell much because it's such a messy thing. Despite she presumably having been in a fight I didn't find that many bruises. She did get a stab wound on her shoulder, probably made with some kind of blade. We may have to compare weapons against it, to figure out what made it.
There also was a handprint on her thigh. It's clear enough for comparison. We'll have to check our hands -- I'll get stuff to make a print of it so we don't have to go lie everyone's hands against Akeha's legs.
[So yeah! We have a potential check to make! It's unlikely it's Akeha's own hand, she thinks, so this may be a good lead]
Also, she had a sardine in her boobs. Thought you should all know.
The conclusion I get out of all this is that yes, there was a fight in that cathedral. The wound on her neck probably is what killed her. Given her profession the killer probably is a good fighter as well.

... Vicious-san was hit by a blunt object around his neck and torso after being turned to stone, and shattered to pieces. I couldn't find any other signs of injury on his person, even after putting him together. However... His expression was one of anger and annoyance, and in his hand he held that strange gun of his. The finger was on the trigger, and he was probably aiming at someone. There was a little bit of wood dust on the blade of his gun, too.
Based on his body language and expression, I think the transformation happened instantly. I mean, if he had the time to react, then wouldn't his expression be one of shock...?

LEAVE THE CHURCH ALONE
anyway, once back, she will call for attention. ]
The door at the cathedral was hanging off its hinges. There were signs of a fight. Pews were pushed over and destroyed. There was blood spotted all over.
What was odd was that there was a sardine by the pews. [ a beat. ] Multiple sardines, here and there.
[ yeah. ]
Further in, there were two pools of blood, one larger than the other. In the larger pool, there were a couple of long smears coming out of it, like something had been dragged out of it. Akeha's sword was found by the smaller pool.
I don't know if this was tied to the cathedral or if it was only this place glitching in general, but we also saw a river of whiskey with sardines.

So... things happened, I guess?
Something splashed around in the fountain, ain't sure what. Debeste found something in the water too.
There was also a pool of blood—probably from Valvatorez-san—and the blood was kinda weird? Like, darker than it should be? I dunno, I'm not an expert on this. There was also a smeared footprint leading away from the pool, along with others. Hard to make out, but maybe a little bigger than my size? They were watery and muddy, and they led to a clothing store.
Inside the store, it was pretty messy! Clothes just strewn around everywhere—Debeste found a pair of shoes inside a pile.
Other than that... back in the markets, it looked like a buncha stalls got destroyed, but then everything glitched out so we couldn't check it out? Not really sure what's going on there... Something about the data being corrupted?

ORDER IN THE COURT, PART I
This has been a very unusual conclusion to the study, we must admit. While we are open to seeing if you would rather choose violence and revenge, we have decided that this is somewhat unproductive. As we are all returned, instead, we suppose we would like to ask you to fill out our end-of-experiment survey.
Please note that these are individual and personal questions, so consensus is not strictly needed. Note that we will have more for you to answer, as well as a final verdict.
[ And so they start handing out their papers as well as a pen. The questions read as follows:
2. If you did take drastic measures, such as murder, why?
3. For those who lost out due to the actions of others, how do you feel currently?
4. If you have criticism or suggestions regarding the study, please inform us (optional).
(The last one is definitely for your characters to ICly vent.) ]
These may be filled out on paper or shared orally.

ORDER IN THE COURT, PART II
Then, they glance to the judge, who bangs their gavel once again to get everyone's attention. ]
Order! We have received all personal survey results. All answers will be considered.
Moving on, we require a final answer for the experiment.
Now that we are all back together, living and dead — what is your "ideal outcome"? Do you still desire for justice or mercy, meeting eye-to-eye with your murderers and victims?
SECOND QUESTION:
As this is still a trial, we cannot exit the program unless you answer the central question. So, who is guilty?
We will accept one answer — a consensus agreed upon by all present for both. You will have time to discuss, but both must be answered by the standard trial end time.
We await your judgment.

FINAL RESULTS
When the clock strikes the end of trial, the judge loudly bangs their gavel. This time there is no simulacra of soft gossiping or the sensation of being watched, of being judged. Again a strange "screen" is projected over the courtroom in front of the judge's seat, displaying the following:
The jury turn to look at the FINAL ANSWERS provided by the subjects, expressions intelligible as ever, but their responses varied with the little bits of personality you've come to know. You may get the feeling that all four are very pensive, thoughtful, and overall pleased by the answers they were given. They are impressed by how quickly and seamlessly the group moved to work together, despite differences.
There is a part that has them tilting their heads in confusion, communicating to each other with silent looks and expressive hand gestures. The confusion doesn't seem to lessen, but a handwave indicates they should shelve this for daily evening meeting.
Instead of a judge, the one with a running waterfall rises and speaks:
"Congratulations to you eighteen on a successful program! With this, the two-week study has concluded. You will be able to return to your worlds, and compensation will be granted tomorrow. Until then, you may continue to use the locations and the amenities provided. We'll be sure to fix up what instabilities and abnormalities remain right away."
The barrier that prevented them from leaving without permission disappears. The locations, which had been glitching out all week and especially in the last nine hours, will stabilize within the next half-hour after your release.
At this point, the NPCs will be unavailable to speak with.
